Roberto Bianco

Mold maintenance technician and toolmaker

Files, hand burrs, chisel and hammer. When a mold needs care, Roberto Bianco already has the tools of the trade in hand.

On the shop floor they call him “the mold doctor”: he recognises the symptoms, understands where to intervene and, when he can, solves the problem directly on the press. An issue that used to cost twenty hours of downtime — dismantling the mold, bringing it back to the workshop and reassembling it — with Roberto is closed in half a day.

But he prefers to describe himself as “a craftsman”. A mold maintenance technician and toolmaker, he joined MPT in 2020 and has been working on molds since he was fifteen, for very different products: from nativity scene figures to shoes, from motocross accessories to houseware.
At the bench he takes care of assembly, maintenance, testing and fine-tuning: work in which precision still passes through the hands.

🔧 One of the most delicate operations is mold spotting. Roberto proceeds one piece at a time with spotting blue: where the mark remains, he knows he needs to remove material, gently, until the correct fit is achieved.
🔧 Then there is polishing. From rough to mirror finish, removing scratches and imperfections with abrasives and diamond paste. A patient job, where sensitivity to detail counts.

MPT works with an increasingly data-driven approach, but Roberto shows that manual skill remains irreplaceable where a defect can only be seen with the mold closed, after injection. This is why he is passing the trade on to a younger colleague.
The exchange, however, is not one-way. Roberto brings the hand and the eye; on the more complex molds MPT builds today, he compares notes with his colleague and takes from him what is needed.

“You learn by watching and trying. I teach what I know, and in the meantime I keep learning.”
