A century of Ducati, read through weight reduction: MPT at World Ducati Week
🌍 In a hundred years, a race bike hasn’t just become faster. It’s become lighter at the same performance level — and much of that gain comes from replacing metal with polymer.
From 3 to 5 July, at the Misano World Circuit, World Ducati Week marked the brand’s centenary with a record turnout: 118,036 attendees from 94 countries. MPT was there as an operational partner.
A component often evolves in one direction: where the function allows, a metal part is redesigned in technopolymer. Same load rating, adequate thermal resistance, reduced mass. It isn’t a downgrade — it’s substitution engineering, where the constraint isn’t “use plastic” but achieve the same structural behavior with a more efficient material.
This is the domain of technical molding: complex geometries, tight tolerances, materials selected to withstand heat, stress, and time. Every gram removed the right way is performance gained.
A century of Ducati can be read this way too: a path, component after component, toward an ever-better strength-to-weight ratio.
Thank you, Ducati, for these first hundred years.
