INFINITY, the innovative shoe rack designed by SoldiDesign, is one such story. With its unique shape and functional design, this product has won the prestigious Archiproducts Design Awards 2024, a recognition that celebrates excellence, innovation, and beauty.

When SoldiDesign entrusted us with the realization of INFINITY, the objective was clear: transform an ambitious idea into a design product with impeccable aesthetic finishes, meeting strict requirements for functionality, structural strength, and sustainability demanded by a daily-use object.

Its spiral shape and rotating structure posed complex design challenges, which MPT Plastica eagerly embraced—tackling every detail from design optimization to mold production while proposing innovative technical solutions during both co-design and production phases.

Comprehensive Technical Analysis
Our Technical Office conducted a detailed analysis of the initial model, identifying critical areas and proposing targeted modifications to ensure the highest quality in the final product. These adjustments reduced expected deformations by 30%, maintaining an ideal balance between the product’s weight and strength.

1) Thickness Optimization

• The base thickness was increased from 2.5 mm to 3 mm to reduce warping caused by the lower ribs, ensuring greater stability and load resistance.
• The central rib’s thickness was reduced to prevent material accumulation that could lead to deformation during molding.
• The overall weight increased from 1.15 kg to 1.47 kg—a change accepted by the client to achieve the optimal balance of strength and aesthetics.

2) Mold Design

• We adopted a hot runner injection system with valve gates and two injection points to ensure homogeneous material flow.
• Cooling inserts were strategically designed to optimize the cooling process in critical areas.
• An innovative ejection system was developed for the central pin, ensuring precision and consistency with the original design.

3) Sustainable Materials

For INFINITY, material selection was strategic: recycled ABS and polypropylene were used to ensure strength, premium aesthetic finishes, and, at the same time, meet environmental sustainability goals.

4) Aesthetic Finishes

INFINITY’s sinuous lines and glossy surfaces were crafted with precision to highlight every detail. Despite the technical challenges linked to closures and required lateral slides, the final result adheres to the high aesthetic standards requested by the client.
